I'm still waiting for a nice day to get out to the range to shoot the S&W 617 and Uberti Cattleman 12 shot, but now there's a third 22 revolver to throw into the mix. Sort of knew this might happen, but this one I could not pass up.

What you see in the pic is a 1958 vintage Old Model Ruger Single Six in 22 LR with a 5 1/2" barrel and the original black rubber grips. This was a couple of years prior to Ruger shipping extra 22 mag cylinders with the Single Six, so the bore is the true .222" 22 LR bore size, instead of the later .224:" 22 Mag bore size. It's in good shape, not shot much, more carry wear than shooting wear.

As mentioned, this OM Single Six has the factory Ruger rubber grips, but this early version has the older XR3 grip frame, which was changed starting sometime in 1962, so these original early grip frame grips are now quite collectible, bringing $100 or more if in good shape like these.

This one will be my OM Single Six shooter to save wear and tear on my later 1965 Single Six is in like new condition with box and papers. This earlier vintage was also prior to Ruger offering adjustable sights on the Single Six, so it has fixed sights, though the rear blade can be adjusted for windage. Still an improvement over the typical Colt style fixed gutter sights. Should make a great Single Six plinker and fun shooter.

Thanks, guys.. There's just something special about those Old Models. Hard to pass up those old 4 click Colt actions.

Great find. One of Miss Tina's friends came to me during a period of financial need and offered me HER old model, a 1958. I told her I'd just loan her a few bucks but she didn't want charity. I bought the gun, even though it was in need of some repair. I fixed it, (just a matter of cleaning up some threads on a screw and tightening it up) This fixed the hammer issue, so I put it in the safe.

note the hammer retention screw.jpg

I never did get around to shooting it before she came to me a year later, hat in hand, and asked to buy the gun back. What could I do? I tossed her and her hat out the door on her butt. :o

:D

Of course I sold it back to her for what I had paid for the darn thing....
... I had originally offered to just loan her the money she needed to get right. Now she had found a job and turned things around.
Sad to see it go, but glad to see her get right.
