Thanks again, folks. Oh, yeah, I absolutely plan to shoot it. Although I have a couple new in the box Liberty Rugers I probably won't shoot, my priority is always shooting. The collecting part is a distant second. Putting it another way, I collect these old guns that are no longer made to shoot them while I still can.

Marine, best of luck on your search, too. Have to say, though, you could have picked just about any other brand for your grail gun and be more affordable than Colt. Not exactly news to you, I know.

Great find. Rib and front blade looks same as Rem 600 design. Rem 600 was my first deer gun and wish I still had.

No coincidence, there. The Remington 600 was basically the rifle offshoot of the XP. It came out in '64, one year after the XP. Remington used the same 40x action with the dogleg bolt handle for the 600 series, plus the vent rib and shark fin front sight

I would love to find a 600, but we rarely see those up here. It should have been more popular, but a lot of gun writers at the time did not like the looks and thought it was too radical. By today's standards, though, it would fit right in, being a short barrel, fast handling very accurate bolt action carbine.

Remington returned to that theme later in 1983 with the Model Seven and did much better. The Seven used a Model 700 action, though, so is basically a 700 carbine. I would love to find a Seven, too.

At just over 5 lbs the 600 was a booter in .308 but a pleasure to carry in the woods. I believe it came in 350 rem mag also.

Yeah, that 350 mag was a serious boomer for sure.

My first center fire rifle was a M/600 Mohawk in .308. The Mohawk was a promotional lower cost release of the 600 without the rib. I hunted with mine in a hard rainstorm once and all the finish came off the stock. Thankfully I was working for a Remington distributor at the time and when I showed the stock to the Remington representative he had the factory send me a no charge replacement.

I found that this rifle in .308 wasn’t very pleasant to shoot and had lots of muzzle blast. I replaced it with a Ruger 30-06 with the standard length barrel and that was a nice improvement. Would have loved to get the 700 BDL to replace it but that was out of my price range at the time.

The 700 BDL was a nice gun. My first centerfire rifle was the 700 ADL in 6mm. Also a fine gun, just not as fancy as the BDL.
