My First Handguns
My father-in-law gave me these two Colt pistols about 15 years ago, three years before he died. They sat in a drawer untouched for the next 12 years, until I finally decided to get a CT Pistol Permit. I got that in December of 2013 at the advanced age of 63. Since then, I've taken both to the range and I really enjoy shooting them, especially the 38.
This Colt 1908 25ACP was purchased new by my grandfather-in-law in 1916. It was rarely fired, but well cared for. I've fired it just a few times myself. This Colt Official Police 38 Special was the service revolver of a police officer in our hometown during the 50's and 60's, who gave it to my father-in-law after he retired from the force. It was built in 1956. These two old guns are treasures to me. I will keep them and shoot them for as long as I'm able.

Very glad you have these two treasures, CT_Shooter. As you said, they are special treasures. It was great that your father-in-law passed them on to you.
Both definitely do not look their ages: a 100-year-old pistol, and a 60-year-old revolver. Not many folk own such beauties! The revolver is a particularly sharp-looking handgun. Thanks for sharing their stories and great pictures!

Re: My First Handguns
Nothing better than the guns that belonged to my father and father-in-law. One has already been passed down to my oldest daughter and the rest will someday go to here and her sister. None of the guns are worth anything monetarily, but I hope they will treasure the heritage behind them.

Thanks, great old handguns! I still carry an old Rossi model 68, .38 special. I believe that it is the model that was built on the Smith & Wesson tooling. I like the "heft" of the older revolvers.
