I hope you find a load you have loaded that will work for you. But I might add being conservative with H-110 in my experience doesnt usually yield a very good load. H-110 is a powder thats all in or none at all. One of the reasons that the starting point and max charge is so narrow.

I agree, as I said in an earlier post.

H-110 is a powder thats all in or none at all.
This is true.

Like WW 296 these powders have very unique burn characteristics and typically need to be loaded according to posted data and not deviated from

If the minimum is X and the max is X your only range is whats in-between - you don't lower these particular powders below posts MINIMUM charge weights. Reason for this is dramatic pressure spikes that can occur with these particular powders when the case is not near full and there is dead air space.

If you want a powder that is more forgiving, with a greater range of charge weights without dramatic pressure issues look into something like Unique or its equivalents.

Yes, Unique is a good one as is A2400. I pointed out the wildly different load applications of H-110 in two different manuals to 6MT, which he already had looked at. Cross references always help. 6, let us know, when you're able, how those loads work.

Check this one out, it is a Pietta-EMF Deluxe Californian in .357 Magnum. It is a companion to my Henry BBS of the same caliber. I shoots like a dream. Unlike the Uberti models, it does not have a retractable firing pin and the action works exactly like a Colt Single Action Army; four clicks and all.

Looks like I will be going out tomorrow (Saturday). I'll post the results.

The only reason I chose the 125gr XTP's over the 158's was that I got 3 boxes at a great deal. So I thought I would give them a try. And I chose H110 because I use it for .44mag in a Henry BBS.

I just got back from testing the first charge weights. As expected the lighter charge weights did not show very good accuracy. But....no squibs. Even with the 16.0gr charge, everything went bang.

Here's the speeds: 16.0gr 1718fps, 16.5gr 1782fps, 17.0gr 1807fps, 17.5gr 1860fps, and 18.0gr 1893. The 18.0gr seems to show the best accuracy. That's not surprising. I think the rifle will get more consistent and show a slight speed increase now that it has 45 rounds fired.

Here's what I decided to load: I'm going to increase the charge weight to 18.3gr to get the speed consistently around 1900fps. And because of the 1873's toggle action, I won't go any higher with the charge. After using the rifle for the first time, I can see why that action in the 1873 "could" have issues. So no hard cycling and no max charges.

I'm glad to hear of others using the lighter XTP's. Who knows? I may try the 158's when these 125's run out. And maybe I was over thinking this a bit. I was happy everything went bang and I had no issues. I shot a total of 45 rounds this morning. And damn, was it cold. Temp was -5c with a 25mph wind in my face. Numb fingers was the normal loading with the side gate.

Get some 180 gr and stick some 2400 under them. You will have a smile on your face then
