Marlin 336 stock switch

Post by Ojaileveraction » Fri Jan 24, 2020 11:24 am

I recently learned how easy it is to remove the lower tang, Lever and trigger group of Marlin lever rifles.
I've had a 1982, 336 in 35rem. Just bought a 1982 336 Texan in 30-30.
The Texan for those not familiar is a 336 30-30 with straight grip stock with n 18 1/2 in barrel. I am not that enamored with the Texans but for the price I couldn't (didn't want to) resist.
I did get the Idea to swop stock. I switched out the lower tang and but stock as.
I was concerned about the fore stocks. The Texan for stock is "considered" to be skinny, more like a Winchester fore stock. Comparing the two I found the dementions were the same only slight finishings were different.
I have a 33A 35rem with its 24 inch barrel and was thinking about selling the 20 inch but the straight stock makes it a completely different rifle.

Still need to put the front sights back on the 35rem.
The 18.5 inch barreled carbine will be fixed up for my DIL.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Looks good Tim,like Al they both do.
I'd bet those straight stocks would look cool on that A, with the long barrel.
If not but, just for a short while.

I equally love both aesthetics, pistol grip and straight. But the pistol grip is easier on the wrist in forty shot matches plus practice.
Seeing Al's post about the 1884cl in 25-20, I thought how I could put a pistol grip on my rifle. That is an idea.
Long barreled Marlins usually have straight grip. There are some rarer over 20 inch pistol grip like the Zane Grey, and a 26" octagon 1895 (80's?). Others I'm sure.
The Mod 1895 is 24? inch round barrel. And the 336A models.
