To the range with a new rifle

Post by bandit1250 » Sun Dec 29, 2019 5:35 pm

I got a chance to go and shoot one of the unfired Grand Finale rifles. Only shot a couple groups until the muzzle loader guys showed up with their smoke poles. I shot a little while after they got there but couldn't stand the noise and smoke screen so I cut my visit short. Got an idea on what ammo to give a good try out the next trip over to the range. Shot SK first at the top targets and cleaned the barrel due to the RWS usually not shooting well when fouled with the SK lube. The first shot at the left center target went higher than the next five . Pretty normal when fouled with greasy SK.
Overall I was pretty satisfied for a brand new rifle not broken in yet and no torque changes made on action screws. Front was set at 18" lbs and the rear at 20" lbs. Works on the other ones real well. Adjusted the trigger to 10 oz. and removed the creep and put the same shim size under the barrel all my other Grand Finales have in them. I can play with torque adjustments and shim position when the weather improves. One more GF to set up for the shooting range but hunting season for small game is still in so I may hit the woods instead plus I have a fur bearer license to hunt them while I am out.

shooting groups like that, its hard to believe it has a green barrel .... it should really be something once you get it broken in

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

My shooting buddy said he didn't think it would shoot like that the first time out. He is the guy that bought this rifle new and sold it to me a couple days later because he said it was to nice for him to keep and beat it up. He just some times shakes his head and tells me he doesn't know how I can shoot like that standing up shooting from a shelf on sand bags. I have shot so much out west shooting prairie dogs and gophers off the truck hood or car trunk I am used to shooting that way. Doesn't hurt my back as much as sitting at those benches at the range.

Nice shootin'. I prefer standing as well...I'm long in the torso, and bench shooting is uncomfortable at best.
