30-30's How many?

Post by Vaquero » Mon Jul 15, 2019 12:57 pm

Was just curious, how many here own a 30-30?
I've owned one for most of my adult life, and
have taken more deer with it any other caliber.
Of course, it was my only CF for many years.
Now at this moment I have 5.
How about some of y'all?

Gonna drag mine out for a picture for y'all.

The post '64 black oxide finish on your Classic sure stands out! (I have a 1967 with the same finish)

My dad had one when I was growing up, his only grandson got his.
Looking at it and getting to hunt with I guess is what drew me to the octagon barrels & lever guns. :D
I have a few.

we have 1 30-30 .... it is a Winchester Model 94 which was manufactured in 1941... it can be seen in the picture below among my Grandfather's firearms .... other than adding studs to mount a sling, its pure stock .... smooth action ... very accurate

Vaquero, my 30-30 is the same as your Ranger AE. Mine is an '85 I believe. Love that rifle! My original lever rifle.
Sleek, easy handling and accurate. Likin' those skinny Marlins also. The newer ones seem to have a beer belly! 8-)

For some reason the models with the 'nose cap' on the forestock as opposed to those with barrel bands are larger and fatter.
I saw one recently at a gun show where the forestock was so large it looked out of place on the rifle.

You mostly see them on the ones from the 50's through the late 60's.
The Marlin guys call Perch bellies. :D
The Western Field has that.
Speaking of the nose-cap versus the two barrel bands, a lot of people think the ones with the nose-cap are slightly more accurate.
I myself can't tell much difference.
