Ruger 10/22 modifications
Two Christmas’s ago I got my oldest daughter (who’s about to turn 12) a Ruger 10/22 takedown. I wanted to make shooting a rifle as easy and comfortable for her as possible. The goal was to make it light. So I purchased and installed the Magpul X22 Backpaker stock. I also installed a Volquartsen bolt release because the stock Ruger bolt release is extremely annoying to me. The only thing I was unhappy with after these upgrades were the minuscule sights. So about a week ago I purchased the Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 red dot optic and installed it with the Ruger factory supplied rail. I took it out and got it zeroed and wow! What a difference it makes! I went from having little interest in shooting it to running through 120 rounds of ammo in less than an hour. Below are some pics of the rifle, 25 yard and 50 yard targets. I enjoyed shooting it so much that I also ordered the Ruger BX Trigger. I just installed it tonight and it makes a big difference. It’s a 2-3 lb crisp, short pull with a short reset. My daughter really likes the upgrades and is looking forward to shooting it. She’s a good shot while propped but I hope this will help her begin to shoot more offhand. Her arms are still a little short and she doesn’t quite have the upper body strength to hold the rifle up long. The red dot should help her with quicker target acquisition.

Couldn't agree, more, on those mods. The little TRS-25 is a great choice - use them on all kinds of guns. We also added the BX trigger to our mid 80s SD and it really helped.

Re: Ruger 10/22 modifications
Here are my groups today after the BX Trigger install. I had to adjust the elevation quite a bit after the install. I tried to dial it in with CCI Mini Mag 36gr HP as that’s what we squirrel hunt with. However, I got the best group with Blazer 40gr lead round nose. It’s considerably less expensive than Mini Mags and it’s also made by CCI. Seems to be great ammo. Win, win!

That’s a nice little rifle Deano! The BX trigger makes a big difference. I need to get my 10-22 dialed in very soon. I have a Nikon 4-12x40 on mine. Turkey opens in 6 days, and we are allowed to use rimfire in the spring. Head shots are my preferred method to save meat.
