Very interesting, I just saw this and am glad that someone knew what it was . The book SINGLE SHOT RIFLES AND ACTIONS is a valuable reference .

I love old rifles. My last purchase of a used rifle was a Model 1888 Springfield Trapdoor that was built in 1890.

Even though modern firearms are useful, I am interested in rifles designed before 1950.

Why "before 1950"?

I have sent a lot of rounds downrange at paper targets with modern bolt guns, AR-15's and the M1A/M-14, but I am more interested in M1 Garands and older rifles. I like the historical aspect of older firearms.

I wouldn’t be Surprised if our North Country Gal doesn’t have one of these tucked away in a safe.

Oh, how I wish. :) We frequent guns shows a lot and, let me tell you, these old classic single shots are few and far between, now. When you do find one, they're often a rebuild project, too.

That golden age for classic single shots was the late 1800s to early 1900s, but I think the advent of the bolt rifle, both for its affordability and accuracy, put the hurt on these classic single shots. Before that, though, the single shots were the guns to beat for strength and accuracy.
