Remington Fieldmaster
Any fans of the Fieldmaster (or old .22 pumps in general) here?
I have my Dad's old 121, and really enjoy shooting it, but it is in need of some work. "Dolly" is pretty rough around the edges and needs a new firing pin to be reliable, but the old girl is still slick as snot. She's savable, but will never be a showpiece...
I'm hoping to eventually clean/polish/blue, and do some wood work before passing it down to my nephew.
In the meantime, I have been keeping one eye open for a clean (decently priced) 572, and found one on consignment at a local shop the other day. By the date code, it is a 2003 BDL, and shares one annoying trait with my open-sighted CZ 512 carbine...the stock is too high for the sights supplied with the gun. I can use them, but it is neither comfortable, nor natural feeling. I think this can be cured by adding a receiver mounted sight and a taller front sight.
The 572 is apart for a good cleaning, but I'll report back when I get it up and running...

Re: Remington Fieldmaster
I love those old 22 pumps. Your 121 and your 572 have a very loyal following over at RFC. A 121 in decent condition is bringing in good money, these days. Getting up there with the more famous Winchester 61. Well worth salvaging if you can get the parts.

Very nice. When looking for a 22 pump I decided to go with a Remington 121 and found one in pretty good condition from 1954.

Re: Remington Fieldmaster
This little 572 is a hoot! Slick, smooth and holds 22 shorts in the magazine. Great plinker. My only gripe, as mentioned above, is with the raised cheek piece on the stock...it makes lining the sights up kind of slow. I have a peep sight here that will slide into the receiver grooves, but it isn't much taller than the OE barrel mounted sight. It might be enough if I can figure out a front ramp and sight. The gun came with a small rimfire scope, but I'd rather not have to put it back on.
Failing that, I have heard that an 870 20ga butt stock will interchange...might be worth a try if I happen to see a used one somewhere.

The peep (Williams WGRS-54) works with the OE front sight, and although it didn't change the sight line, the front sight is easier to pick up. There is a fair bit of height adjustment left on the rear, so I do have a bit of wiggle room for a taller front...

Good that you're getting sights figured out. Thanks for sharing! Keep it coming.
