Nice light weight 22

Post by bandit1250 » Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:05 pm

I have a 1968 Remington 22 that rarely gets in the woods. I got it out of the safe and plan to get out for rabbits if the weather gets a little warmer next week. This rifle is from the two years they were made with walnut stocks. I bought this gun and it needed refinished but had no issues with wood being dented a gouged up. I stripped it and put probably at least 8 coats of Tru-oil on it with no stains added. It is a light colored walnut but I like it natural finished. This rifle with a 4x (Japan) Tasco scope and Weaver quad rings and one of the nylon AR straps with 5 rounds in the mag still weighs a couple ounces under 6 lb. Makes for a pretty light walking rifle. Accuracy is great especially for a very light sporter rifle. Here is a few pictures and this wood does not take very good pictures in doors. It looks better out side to show how well the wood looks. I just had put two coats of Renaissance wax on the wood. This wax is really good stuff to use.

Close up picture shows up a little better. Hard to get the right light.

Have had a couple of those 580 series guns over the years, including a 581 like yours. Oh, yeah, they are amazingly accurate little rifles with those rear locking lug bolts and fast lock times. That one is simply gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
