Picked up a CZ 455
Picked up a CZ 455
I recently sold my Savage 93R, and have been looking at other rimfire guns to take its place. Browning SA-22s, a T-Bolt in .17 HMR, a CZ 455 LUX in .22 LR, a Remington 510 single-shot, and a tube fed(!) Winchester 77. While handling the 77, something else further down the rack caught my attention, and I went for a look-see...
It appears to be one of CZ's seemingly endless 'parts bin' specials that aren't shown in the catalogs. This one has an oil finish walnut LUX stock with a thick rubber butt pad, and what appears to be the action and barrel from the 455 American Stainless with a CZ branded scope mount. It is chambered in .17 HMR. I have a bit of a weakness for walnut and stainless together, so it came home with me.
I'm just wrapping up some work on one of my other CZs, and the .44 I got from Redthies...when I'm done, I'll get some pictures up.

Not surprised. CZ is known for sneaking in guns that never made it to the catalog. Love to see your new CZ when you get a chance to post about it.

Lol, I snapped a few quick ones with my phone just as it was starting to snow here. Not the best pics...

Strange they put the hog back stock on a rifle that needs to be scoped with the absence of any open or tangent sights. CZ does some weird stuff with some of the rifles they turn out. Maybe they were cleaning out some parts bins and had enough to build a complete rifle. Doesn't matter. It looks nice and is different and may be the only one. Hope it shoots well.

I thought that at first as well, but looking at the grain, and the feel of the wood, I'm pretty sure it is walnut of some type. It still could be their 'rustic' finish, though. The finish doesn't do the wood any favors...it is muddy and unevenly applied. It almost looks like an oil/stain mix. I rubbed a quick coat of wood wax on it, and the cheesecloth turned brown. That's encouraging, as it means no varnish or poly top coat...I can likely improve the finish with some elbow grease.North Country Gal wrote:Its that one of those CZ rustic aged beechwood stocks?
