The foundation for my next project showed up in the mail yesterday...

There's not a lot to tell yet. I haven't decided which direction to go in, but I am leaning towards a strictly subsonic, reasonably accurate rifle for quick plinking and back yard pest control. The lowest velocity rounds my 10/22 and AMT 25/22 will cycle reliably are about 950 fps. I would like to go lower than that if I pursue this direction.

Any advice you have as far as the subsonic/semi-auto combo, barrel lengths/profiles/chambers would be greatly appreciated. I've had the above two apart many times, but this is the first one I'll be building from hand-picked components.

I've had great luck with Kidd triggers and barrels, but cheap, they are not. Went with a Kidd barrel on a Charger. Went from being a 7/8th inch shooter at 50 yards to an easy sub half inch shooter.

Kidd barrels are definitely on my radar, and though I have never experienced their triggers, I would like to. I have a BX trigger here that I might use. For the money, they work well. It's all up in the air right now...the only thing I am certain on is that I want to put it in a hardwood stock (preferably maple or walnut).

With you on the BX trigger. It's a great value and definitely a step up from the usual stock 10/22 trigger. We put one on our mid-80s 10/22 and saw real improvement. Still, the Kidd triggers are in a different class, entirely. I'd considerate Kidd or equivalent to be a must for a competition level build, but the BX will do fine for fun shooting.

Picked up a Ruger DSP (Deluxe SPorter) walnut stock to add to the list...

Volquartsen has a bolt for use with subsonics like CCI Quiet 22 which is 710fps and sounds like a pellet gun. Here is a link to 22plinksters YouTube review of it. https://youtu.be/1HjctWiRgRk

I have been considering the Firefly bolt, but I'm not sure if I want to limit it that much. Most of my .22LR shooting is with standard velocity rounds, which are usually between 1000 to 1100fps. That Volquartsen bolt is rated for anything under 1000, and is made of aluminum. I think repeated use of standard velocity rounds would hammer the bolt to pieces. Ideally, I would like to be able to shoot anything between 700 and 1100, but I get the feeling that I'm chasing a unicorn there. If I can't find a way to do it by lightening the bolt and/or recoil/hammer springs, I will have to get the VQ bolt, and stick to CCI quiets. I like shooting them anyway, and this isn't our only 10/22.
When shot through my Golden Boy, the Quiet 22 round makes less noise than my .22 cal pellet gun.
