Agree that anything between 700 and 1100non a semi-auto 22 is unlikely to happen, but if you like the CCI Quiets and they work for you, just build the gun around them. I use them, too. Out about 30 yards accuracy is good enough for target practice, but they're no 50 yard target round. For serious 50 yard work you need t bump up to the subsonic level of 22 LRs.

Well, this has taken a bit of a change in direction...I'm going to hold on to that 7075-T6 receiver in the first post for something a little more special.

In the meantime, I've been accumulating some OEM Ruger take-off parts, and have a Volquartsen Firefly bolt on the way. I'll piece together a "quiet" backyard plinker with some of these parts.

Give CCI Suppressor ammo a try:

See the reviews too.

Its subsonic in my 22" barreled 10/22 and works with the usual bolt. Other than that, cut your barrel down to the legal non-NFA length (16"?), thread it and go from there.

I use them quite often, actually. They are the lowest velocity round that my 10/22s and AMT 25/22 will reliably cycle (IIRC, they're around 950 fps). They work well, but I want to go even slower and more quiet. The bolt I ordered will reliably cycle the CCI Quiet rounds @ 710 fps. This 10/22 will use rounds like that, or the Remington CBees @ 740 FPS. We don't have barrel length restrictions here on rimfires...as long as the overall length of the rifle is at least 26", I can run any barrel length I want. However, we are not allowed suppressors, so threading it won't do me much good.
With that said, a shorter barrel will increase the noise a bit, but I think that is the way I will go. I have 16" and 18.5" blued barrels, and a 20" stainless version. I Think I'm going to use the 16" barrel and give up a couple of decibels for a rifle that is shorter, lighter, and quicker to point.

This will be an open-sight backyard fun gun. The sight radius on the 16" barrel is pretty short, but I will gain some of that back by adding a Williams receiver mounted peep sight.

A linear compensator will decrease and focus DB a tad but it could/would play havoc with the iron sights you mentioned. Also, the barrel would need threading. These are not considered a suppressor in the US. I'm not sure in Canada.

The XL and Slim XL are aluminum and have 45+ cal holes through them which is OK for anything smaller. The others are steel and the holes can be of various size.

I really didn't think they would make much, if any, difference. Looks like I have some reading to do. I have a couple of CZs with threaded barrels...should give it a try with one of them. I have seen .22 (.223) versions in my travels. The lightweight bolt arrived today, so I should have something together soon.

Well, I got one together out of spare parts and a BX trigger. It functions perfectly. I think it will even cycle shorts if I can find one of the out-of-production Volquartsen "short" magazines. Compared to an OEM bolt, the movement is slick and smooth. The "clank" of the action closing is somewhat reduced as well. The sound of aluminum slapping steel doesn't quite have the same sharpness as steel on steel. Added bonus.
I did measure the weight of the bolts, as well as spring and pin dimensions if anyone is interested.

I need to get some pics when I find the time (got a bunch to take of other projects as well).

LOL, I like outdoor pictures for showing off wood...every time I get the chance, it's snowing like crazy this year. I have to take some of this 10/22, my CZ 455, which turned out pretty good, A Beechwood CZ 512 (that I should have stained), a Ruger .44 carbine that I got from another member here, and now another Remington Fieldmaster that fell into my lap the other day...

OK...had some time to spare this morning, and snapped some pics with the cell.
Nothing really special about this "build" other than the bolt kit... Just a walnut Sporter stock, and a 16.12" barrel from a 10/22 compact. I am waiting on a set of Williams peep sights to get 'er sighted in.

I have some plans for my wife's 10/22 Takedown, and some more parts laying around, so when I get to more 10/22 stuff, I'll just add to this thread. Thanks for the interest and advise along the way...
