As above, I like the looks of the straight grip, but when it comes to shooting the 444s and the 45-70s I've owned, much prefer the pistol grip to help with the recoil. Had a straight grip Marlin 45-70, back in the day, and it was just plain brutal to shoot.

I like the rifles with longer, >20 inch, tappered octagon barrels. They are usually on straight grip stocks.North Country Gal wrote:As above, I like the looks of the straight grip, but when it comes to shooting the 444s and the 45-70s I've owned, much prefer the pistol grip to help with the recoil. Re: Straight grip Marlins
Bandit,
I bought a 1958 39a . Saw a couple times over a month at a LGS by my Son's house.
Third time did the deal. Straight stock, 20 inch barrel. Has a "period" scope. Didn't catch what brand. Excited to get a second 39 in the family. Probly ask to trade my DIL for her 39as pistol grip and long barrel. Like NCG'S rifle.
Pick it up next week and I'll have pictures.
