Had to reach far back in to the safe for my lever rifles for deer season. Got out the 444 Marlin, Marlin Zane Grey and my 1960 Marlin SC 35 Rem. Needed a little dust wiped off. That tells me they need to get used more. I have never fired that SC in the 5 years I have had it. The 444 Marlin and the Zane Grey gets shot some in the off season. After our house just about got destroyed hunting pretty well stopped here for me. Our senior/junior season actually started today and I thought it was next week. I may get out a few hours. I will show you my Marlin deer lever rifles. Which one would you use out of this three? Front is 336 SC 35 Rem.--Center is 336 Zane Grey 30-30--Rear is the big hammer 444 Marlin. Most say the 444 is "over kill" and I just say dead is dead. I might worry about "over cooking" what I kill with it. Deer, Porcupines and coyotes don't like the triple 4.
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Re: Reaching to the rear
This side is better. The year made was 2000. This is the most accurate bigger bore rifle I have ever owned. My 45-70 1895 Marlin was good but wasn't as good as this one.North Country Gal wrote:Love the wood on that later vintage 444! That would be my choice.

Had a 444 once and it was a tack driver with the Hornady bullets. It loved 4198 powder. I should have not ever sold it but like a fool I did. Wish I had it back.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: Reaching to the rear
Yeah, that late vintage JM had ballard rifling. My 1997 JM 1894 in 357 has the ballard as is astonishingly accurate.
