The hole that leaves will make that 45 colt hole look like a 22LR

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Nice! But possibly an expensive door stop. Spent last 20 minutes or so looking for ammo. Just about every place I checked was either 'out of stock', 'discontinued' or 'not found'. Gunbroker had a box of 20 at 'buy now' for $800.

Umm, it's a 50 caliber round. That's less than 1/16 of an inch bigger than .45.BigAl52 wrote:The hole that leaves will make that 45 colt hole look like a 22LR
You have to be an advanced reloader that knows how to rework brass from other cartridges to shoot it. I guess if you manufacture a gun for which there is no factory loaded ammo, no one can blame you if they blow it up.

Re: Texas Ranger rifle
While factory ammo for this firearm is scarce and difficult to find, even empty brass for reloaders is outrageous at $7 per piece (though a bit easier to find). The only good reason to own this caliber for target shooting or hunting in North America is that you want one and you can afford it. Otherwise, there are so many better choices for calibers that that will meet your shooting and/or hunting needs.

Re: Texas Ranger rifle
Well I won't be buying one anytime soon. If I buy another rifle it will be an 1885 low wall.

I said that tongue and cheek because I like to pester my Canadian computer friend RRrwortman wrote:Umm, it's a 50 caliber round. That's less than 1/16 of an inch bigger than .45.BigAl52 wrote:The hole that leaves will make that 45 colt hole look like a 22LR

Re: Texas Ranger rifle
I agree as well - too many 'common' calibers to own that are considerably less expensive to either buy or reload for with common components.
About the only 'rare' caliber (and then not particularly rare) I would own is a .25-35 Winchester. Ammo is still made by a few Mfgs. and components are still common. Unfortunately the rifles aren't and so far my searching (which hasn't been particularly dedicated) has resulted in finding a few but they are either too nice and expensive or too beat up and still priced too high!
