ruger 10/22 trigger opion

Post by bmsma » Sat Jul 07, 2018 4:48 pm

scenario:
dear wife has expressed a interest in shooting a rifle, she is learning handguns on her ruger sr22 and glock 17, and she has shot my walther/colt 1911-22 and single six.

i also have a Henry evil roy 22m and in looking around ordered a ruger 10/22 so she can experience a non lever rifle. i know a bolt action might have been a better option but im left handed and she a righty and we will both use this one.

all you read on the ruger forums is how horrible the oem trigger is, i dont remember that but its been 15 years since i have shot a 10/22

for those of you that have a 10/22 im looking for a un-biased opinion on the factory trigger, or even the ruger drop-in bx trigger

thanks Troy

We have 2 Ruger 10/22's and an SR-22. We use these rifles for plinking at 25-50 yds - steel plate targets, soda cans, water bottles, clays, and an occasional empty shotgun shell, I think the triggers in all of them are "good enough" - we never considered changing them out....

I never really had an issue with the factory trigger...until I put a BX trigger in my wife's 10/22 takedown...now I want one in all of them. Try it the way it comes out of the box. If you don't like it, the BX trigger can be found for a good price, and works very well. No creep, feels like 2-3lb pull, and crisp. If you find one on sale, it would be hard to beat.

i had been looking at the bx trigger, brownells has them on sale currently. but im hoping the factory will be good enough for her to try it and see if she likes the action better than a lever gun

Out of the box triggers on standard 10/22s will be all over the map as far as quality. The BX is a good, easy fix option if you get a bad one.

Have two 10-22 rifles. Put Timney trigger groups in both. Really made them shine accuracy wise. A little pricey but definitely worth it.

The trigger on my 10-22 is just fine. I wouldn't plunk down the money for the BX without trying what comes with it first.
