Remington 700 Bdl 1971

Post by TRock » Mon Jun 04, 2018 9:52 am

I have been looking for an older Remington 700 BDL in a .270 for a while. Went to a LGS the other day, as I walked in I spotted it right away. It was made in 1971. Black guns are cool, but there is just something about the older wood guns that turns my crank. So now lets mark it off the old bucket list. :D

Those years were very good rifles. Looks like nice wood on that BDL. That checkering was last done for the '73 year rifles. I made hand checkering by cutting through the pressed checkering on a 270 BDL and it turns out nice but a lot of time involved. I kept the same pattern. I had a 222 Varmint and a 22-250 Varmint with the same pattern and my friend still has them. Congratulations on finding one you wanted.

Good for you. Always nice to find a gun you've wanted for years. Those 70s Remingtons were made in the day when Remington was at its peak for quality and popularity. Not the same Remington as we have, now.

Yes, I had flirted with just buying a new one, but too many gun shops told me I would be better off finding a nice older one than purchasing a new one with less quality. Of course everyone has their own opinions. The cool thing about it was that is was made the same year that I graduated high school and couldn't afford one. Although someone took a lot better care of the rifle than I took care of myself..lol

I have one of those as well in a 243 with the Varmit barrel. Its a shooter for sure and it was made when Remington still took pride in what they were doing. Congrats it looks good.

By the way Trock by disclosing your year of graduation Seabee will be welcoming you into the old mans club since youre over 60

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......
