Ruger Mini-14.....
Does anyone here have one? Do you like it. More or less fun to shoot that the AR type rifles?

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
Never owned one - shot a few but my assessment is always the same of them - poor ergonomics, really bad stock sights (early ones- can't speak for the newer ones) VERY loud and so-so accuracy. IF I wanted a SA rifle in .223 it would most likely be an AR but I don't really want one.

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
I've never owned one, wouldn't mind doing so .... during my career as an instructor in NC's Dept of Correction the Mini-14 was (so far as I know still is) the standard issue rifle .... the ones assigned to our institution were heavily used in training .... they proved to be tough, highly reliable rifles .... the longest range they were fired during our training was 25 yards .... at that distance they were very accurate

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
I have one in a 300 Blackout. Had one in a 7.62 X 39 mini 30 they call it but I traded it for a Windom AR in that same caliber. My 300 shoots very well and I like it. No it doesnt have bolt gun accuracy but it does good for a semi auto. I don't think I would buy one in a 223 if that's the one your looking at. I would go for the AR platform if you want a semi auto. At this point also where Im at with my guns in general I don't think I would buy one again if I had to do it over.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
We have one and we really like it. The older models had thin "pencil barrels" and were notorious for less than stellar accuracy. The newer models have beefier barrels and are better, but probably still not as accurate as an equivalent costing AR. I really like the feel and operation of the Mini-14 - kind of like a miniature M1A. Some of the best prices I have seen for them are at the local Walmart. Last time I looked they were $724 for a walnut stock/blued .223 Mini-14.

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
When I started with the Texas Highway Patrol the Mini 14 was standard issue. I never had any issues with mine. It was always a good rifle. When the department transitioned to M4's. Troopers had the option to buy their issued Mini-14. I purchased mine and have never been sorry. When I retired, I was able to purchased my issued M4.

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
I love the Mini 14 over the AR because I love wood on guns . I had the mini 30 too which I didn't care for it . Sold them many moons ago .That is a good pic only this forum screws them up after I post them

Re: Ruger Mini-14.....
The Mini 14 has to be inaccurate, look how many rounds the A-Team fired and never hit anybody..............
I hear the new ones are better also. I think if you like that kind of rifle, there aren't really that many choices.

That is true . It takes a good gunsmith to tune them up .Henry88 wrote:The Mini 14 has to be inaccurate, look how many rounds the A-Team fired and never hit anybody..............

I'm going to buy me a Mini 14, 5.56 ,guess i'll have to add a scope if the rifle is not accurate.
