Marlin 30AS

Lever action fever has struck again. Traded for a super clean 30.30 Marlin 30 AS lever rifle today . This one was made before the Remington take over.. It has been many years since I have owned one and it brings back a lot of memories. I'll try to get a picture up soon .

Nice! look forward to seeing it! It seems there is a bit of a Renaissance with lever action in general from what I am seeing on other forums, people I talk to AND the responses to for sale ads for levers. Heck I have even seen people trying to offer their 'beloved' black rifles and ammo in trade for a Lever when so offered.

The early 30AS versions were sold as the Marlin Glenfields, but later just sold as the Marlin 30AS. Have always had a soft spot for those less expensive Glenfields. Have had a few and they are every bit a Marlin, just not as fancy as the regular line. The 30AS had a birch stock, instead of walnut, but was otherwise as 336 in every way as far as the action. In fact, I know several hardcore Marlin collectors who go out of their way to find the Glenfields.

An interesting note on the 30AS is that it does not have a barrel band like most of the standard Marlin 336s. They use a forend cap (like my 336A with its 24" barrel) which I like for the sake of accuracy. Your 30AS should be a great shooter. Don't let its plain jane looks fool you. Congrats on a nice find.

Yea like an idiot I passed on one of these locally for $200! It was a bit rough - not terrible but clean and tight.

I know what you mean. It wasn't something I had to have , but it is just too hard to pass up those one owner safe guns.
