Favorite rifle in terms of hours shooting.
There are lots of ways to rate a rifle as one's favorite, given that favorite is such a subjective term. Maybe it's the gun you regard as the best looking, or the best shooting, or the most expensive. Maybe its the one with the most sentimental value and so on. As we say in amateur astronomy, though, the best telescope is the one you use the most. Applying that to rifles, then, what is your favorite rifle in terms of the one you shoot the most? Oh, I can guess for some of you, but let's just see some of those most used rifles, folks.
For my favorite/most used rifle, it's actually a tie, though both rifles are still the same basic model. One I shoot with a peep sight and one I shoot with a scope. And the winner for me is ... my two HW30S airguns in 177 caliber. Top is the HW30S Deluxe with a Williams peep and the bottom is the HW30S Laminate with a Nikon 3-9x EFR scope.
Yup, my number ones are air rifles. Between the two HWs, I shoot them hundreds of hours a year. In fact, if we stick to the number of hours a year formula, my top five would probably be air rifles, not just because i love air rifles, but because I can shoot air rifles, right at home, in the basement or the backyard, 365 days a year. This time of year, especially, I shoot airguns on an almost daily basis.
Here's today's target with the top HW30s in the pic, the one with the peep. Pulled a couple into the 9 ring, so not my best target, but good enough to show what fine German made air rifle can do.
By the way, there is nothing sweeter to shoot than these fine little HW30 rifles.
So, let's see some of those favorite, by way of most used, rifles!

I'm expecting that most will post their cartridge, powder burning rifles, not air rifles. Not too many crazy air rifle shooters like me, around. So, which Henry do you use the most?
RR, uh, wild guess would be your 1860 in 45 Colt. Crazy me, don't know where I got that idea.

Oops, forgot the Red Ryder, don't know how I could forget that on Christmas Eve! It's fun the shoot too.

Had you down for that one, BigAl. Still don't have one, though. Now, if I found a Marlin in the 41 mag ...
JEBar, those are some serious "plinkers".
Yes, the Red Ryder does count, too, RR, but I'd rather think of you with the 1860.

Re: Favorite rifle in terms of hours shooting.
the only 22 I own is a Remington Model 12 pump (I think they stopped making them in the late '30's) .... I don't own a 22 caliber handgun .... prior to buying our Henry rifles, the rifle I fired the most is an 1971 Browining BLR 308 .... I still take and fire it most every time I go to a range but not as many rounds as the 44North Country Gal wrote:JEBar, those are some serious "plinkers".
