Ruger M-77 MkII

Post by roddy » Fri Dec 22, 2017 7:15 am

This one of the rifles I picked up along with the Timber Wolves this year. It came out of the same collection. Built in 1991, and never used...essentially a brand new 26 year old gun. It is a .243.

Very nice. I had a couple Ruger bolt guns back when I was in Hawaii, tuned by the club gunsmith. They were tackdrivers.
I can't for the life of me remember the model numbers... but to be fair... it was all the way back in the 80s.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

both of our sons have 80's vintage stainless, synthetic stock M77's .... theirs are 30-06's .... we've had some work done on them to reduce felt recoil and as a result, believe it or not, they are fun to shoot

243 and 308 the parent of the 243. Both great calibers.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I have a Remington 700 BDL Varmit barrel in a 243. The gun has a tuned trigger and I bought it from a guy who used it to hunt hogs in Texas. It only had just a few rounds thru it and it has one mark on it in the stock. I put a 4x16 weaver scope on it and I have done some load development with it. Like all the other 243's I have owned it loves the nosler 70 grain ballistic tip. I have shot under 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards with it more than once. It is the most accurate rifle I own by far. My 308 is a Sig AR-10 also very accurate and fun to shoot. Al

I've had good luck with the Hornady 75 grain ballistic tipped off the shelf rounds. It likes the 95gr SST as well. The 75's have been hard to find lately...thanks for the alternative suggestion. I'll keep an eye out for the Noslers.
