New gun: Ruger LC45

Post by GunnyGene » Sat Jan 27, 2024 12:55 pm

I know there's not much interest here on evil black guns, and this one is a first for me. But thought some of y'all might be interested.

Ruger just announced this model at ShotShow, and I decided to try to get one. The LGS had just got one in the shop 2 days ago, and the price was right so bought it. $749. You can read all about the model here:

I'll be sighting in later today if the weather cooperates.

Nice! Well, you never know when such a firearm will come in handy.

My thoughts exactly. Forgot to mention that it will also accept the 26 rd Glock pattern sticks from KSI and others. I did shoot one mag a little while ago off the porch, but it's still drizzling so I didn't hang any paper. Functions well, no issues. :)

Id buy one simply for the fact that its a pistol caliber carbine. But I already have a Ruger PC Carbine in 40 S&W and dont see then need for another. I like the PC alot and it has never not functioned. Its also alot more accurate than I thought it would be.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

BBTI did a comparison of different .45acp in various barrel lengths in 2015, which is interesting. Std. velocity 230grn FMJ doesn't get much of a boost from a longer barrel, but the +p ammo really shines.

I'll be watching for your range report Gunny because I've been talking myself into getting one of these....especially if one turns up at that price!

Maybe this coming Fri. Weather forecast looks promising.

ETA: Something that's usually important for folks is Grip feel. The LC grip is a little thicker than the typical 1911, but is considerably narrower front to back. Grip angle is identical to a 1911. All of the controls are easily reached if you have avg. length digits, without changing your grip. If you're comfortable with a 1911 grip, you should be ok with the LC grip.

The gun can be fired with the stock folded, but I wouldn't advise it, since you lose access to the left side safety and the bolt lock, and it interferes with your thumb if it's not fully extended. The butt stock is easily removed if you want to shoot it without shouldering it.

PS: What I paid was the Military/Police discount price (10%), so about $830 without that. And of course the Governor got his 7% on the $749. And I bought 2 Glock mags and a box of range ammo, so out the door it was about $889. No NICS fee tho.
