New gun: Ruger LC45

I had the Garand and the M1A (M14) on my bucket list as well, but dropped them due to the ammo costs. I shot Match Grade copies of both from the "Special Racks" in the base armory during High Power matches in the Corps, and loved them, especially the M14s, but couldn't imagine having to pay for those cases of National Match 308 ammo. We once drove to Ford Island at Pearl Harbor and picked up two pallets of Match ammo for the M14 the Navy no longer needed, in return for a favor I had been doing for a Navy Captain. Coordinating the Marine involvement in a conservation project on the small island of Kahoolawe. I would hate to think what those two pallets of match ammo would sell for these days.

I wish... ... in the Corps, I was in Marine Aviation and we were never allowed enough time to practice as the Flight Schedule always came first. "The Grunts have time for that as it's their MOS." We shot matches during off time and practiced when we could find the time. I won a pistol match now and then but I always shot expert with the rifle and pistol and was a coach for every squadron...

BUT... I was a Distinguished POLICE Marksman... not easy to earn... Perfect Score over the course five times, With a duty gun.

Id buy one simply for the fact that its a pistol caliber carbine. But I already have a Ruger PC Carbine in 40 S&W and dont see then need for another. I like the PC alot and it has never not functioned. Its also alot more accurate than I thought it would be.

BBTI did a comparison of different .45acp in various barrel lengths in 2015, which is interesting. Std. velocity 230grn FMJ doesn't get much of a boost from a longer barrel, but the +p ammo really shines.

My problem with this is that it is very dependent on the barrel and the ammo. I see a significant increase in velocity out of my BNT GHM45 with its 7" barrel compared to, say, a 1911. For pistol caliber carbines, I think 8" is about the sweet spot for carry length and velocity.

Agree about the barrel/ammo. This is why I always run a chrono check on a new gun - except .22 which is nearly impossible to get a reading on. I haven't done this yet for this gun, but will fairly soon. I'll publish the results.

Thought I should add this NFA advice from Ruger, since OAL with butt stock removed or folded is approx 22.5". and it can be fired in that configuration.

Btw, the 26rnd mags I ordered came in the mail a couple days ago and work well, but loading required my Uplula for the last 5 or 6 rnds. At least for me.

I wouldnt mind having one of the LC's in 5.7 x 28 but the ammo is to expensive and reloading it is not very user friendly
