Picked up an old acquaintance

After a 60 plus year hiatus, I came in possession of a rifle that I created havoc with in SE Arizona. This 1956 version of a Winchester 63 22lr belonged to my uncle, who was a farmer, and who my folks visited often. I worked his farm for 2 summers when I was a kid, and this rifle provided much entertainment during those years. Got it in a round about way, but I now have it. I can’t wait to take it out and fire it up again. I’m afraid my Henry 22 might not get shot for a while.

Absolutely a classic. The 63 is one hard to find gun. I've only seen one in my lifetime. In the first place, the 63 was an expensive gun in its day and Winchester produced them in fairly modest numbers. In the second place, 63 owners rarely put them up for sale. Very well built guns, on a par with the Browning SA as far as build quality. Thanks for sharing and congrats on getting an old friend back. I'd be thrilled, too.

My son purchased an old Winchester 22 that looks to be about the same model. The only difference is the loading tube is in the butt stock and not on the side like that one. It still shoots pretty darn good.

Took her out today. After cleaning and lubing her innards (probably hadn’t been field stripped in 40 years), the gun shot without a hiccup. The sights aren’t the best for aging eyes, but tin cans and assorted rocks still took a beating. I might put a Skinner peep on the rifle, but that may lessen the nostalgia factor. Time will tell.
