Savage model 99 in 308

Post by Ozarkwoodswalker » Thu Nov 21, 2019 6:48 pm

By accident I had to shoot my Savage 99..made in 1957.,..but it was the only rifle I could get out of gun cabinet in time to shoot a nice buck that decided to come in my yard....it's open sights....haven't shot open sights in forty years....but gee....it went up to my shoulder easy...it is light...(their featherweight model) I observed no kick..( of course, I was very excited by the buck). ..but I have to say ...I'm really wishing it was not so pretty. I liked the way it shot...and it did a number on the buck....

the Savage 99 has easily recognizable classic lines .... the very trim forestock and look of the lever mechanism when it is open are fairly unique .... I've never owned one but have fired one .... I do recall that as you noted went up to my shoulder easy and it was light.

Good article, so Savage invented the radial tire, how about that.
