Bought a Ruger Wrangler
Bought a Ruger Wrangler
It’s time to start exposing our pup to some gunfire and the community we live in does not allow the discharge of firearms even tho it’s legal in this part of the county. I have a box of 22 short blanks on hand but I found myself without a 22lr revolver to shoot them in. Not wanting to break the bank I decided to take a look at the Heritage Rough Rider and the Ruger Wrangler. A local shop had both in stock, $130 for the Heritage and $190 for the Ruger. Either would be fine for my need but I chose the Ruger and paid the extra $60. It has the Burnt Bronze frame/barrel and I kind of like the two tone. They also had the all black Wrangler for $10 more, not that the black gun is more from Ruger just the store had the Bronze one longer and didn’t raise the price when Ruger did. (?)
I’m in the Washington State 10 day waiting period so I don’t have possession of it yet. I’ll post some pics when I get it home but it’s just the run of the mill Wrangler.
File photo from the Ruger website. And as usual, this pic is “scrunched”.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Very much agree that either the Heritage or the Wrangler would work for your intended purpose. For sure, we'd love a range report.

Re: Bought a Ruger Wrangler
I have handled both the Ruger and Heritage. In my humble opinion neither are likely to win a beauty contest. But functional and definitely affordable. If I were to buy either it would be the Ruger the extra $60 is noticeable in the quality of the gun. Looking forward to seeing your range report.

Re: Bought a Ruger Wrangler
Congrats Hatch on the new Ruger.
I bought one a several months back, but as of yet haven't shot it other than to make sure it functioned correctly.
I bought it really to compare it with the pair of Heritages but I also have a pair of single-sixes.
I guess I have a thing for single action and some are 22's.
But I bought that ole Cowboy it took up most of the range time this Summer.
Be waiting your report though.

Re: Bought a Ruger Wrangler
Unfortunately the Wrangler is locked up in Washington State’s waiting period but when I get my hands on it I’ll do a report. I have a couple of others that need some love so I’m movitiated to do so. The gun club I belong to has an indoor handgun range (read heated ) but it’s only open a couple of nights a week from 5-8. Man I hate being out at night. (Read old man here ) I’ll get my neighbor to go with me, he’s even older than me.

Re: Bought a Ruger Wrangler
I picked up my Wrangler yesterday after a few extra days delay. Seems like the shop where I bought it sold two of these around the same time and when the other customer came in to get his gun they gave him mine. So of course the serial number of his was mine and vice-versa. The shop was able to transfer the s/n’s to us properly so all’s good now. And….for awarding my patience they gave me a $20 gift card to the store. That will not be a problem spending….
Anyway, here is the gun. I read online that one complaint (or maybe I read it here) is the small loading gate. I have to agree, even with my average sized hands the gate is difficult to open. Hopefully with use it will become easier to open. Even tho the frame is cast aluminum (as I recall anyway) it feels very solid in my hand. The action is smooth and the trigger pull is acceptable. I’m hoping to get it to the range this week just to burn some ammo.
