I found an Acubolt

Post by daytime dave » Fri Sep 09, 2016 8:38 pm

I went to a favorite gun shop last weekend. I found a Henry Acubolt in .22 mag. It was on clearance. I inquired if they had any other acubolts. The man at the counter said I was the first to ask about them in 3 yrs, hence the one on clearance.

I don't like or want one in .22 mag. That was all they had in acubolt. I tried the bolt and it was butter smooth. I'll never shoot it, but should I rescue it?

I'm not sure I want to. I know I can and should. What a quandary.

I don't know that you'll never shoot it, Dave.

It's a single shot. How much ammo can you go through? :D

Neat find, Dave....I think it needs to be rescued, too. Especially if the clearance price is a good one.

Couple of things. The .22WMR is a great ammo caliber. It really moves out strong, especially as compared to 22LR. The difference is most noticeable. I miss the Henry Lever Action .22 Magnum I had to sell last year. And WS is right. Having a single shot will take some time to get through your ammo supply! ;) Plus a single shot firearm is much fun to shoot!

Don't forget. This find has a "butter-smooth bolt action." A good Henry quality. :)

I keep hoping Henry will bring back the Accu-bolt. Except... it needs to be blued steel with a walnut stock. A modern take on the old single shot .22's that boys got for their first rifle.

I think you should rescue it just to add to the collection. You'll never find any 22 mag ammo on the shelves so it will never be shot. Will be in pristine condition to hand down to your grandchildren!

Also, don't ever post 'should i buy it' on this forum. The answer is always a resounding YES!!!

I loved the action. I would like it if I had a thousand rounds of the ammunition. I'm thinking about it, but there was a used 1100 for similar money that I would have actually used. I'm sure I'll have plenty of time to decide. It hasn't had any interest there except from me.

Buy it even if you don't have ammo for it. Sometime in the next year you will see tons of it on the shelf.
