New .22 Magnum

Post by roddy » Tue Feb 27, 2018 7:32 am

I picked up a new H003TM a couple of days ago. Other than retAFShooter's boo-boo, is there anything I should be aware of or keep an eye out for? How are you all liking your little pumps?

Hey roddy, I don't know anything about the pumps other than they can be a little stiff at first, but I love your choice in calibers.......

BTW Academy has some good prices on WMR if there's one around. I never thought I would see WMR for $9 on the shelf again.

LR was going for that a few years back. :D

Thanks. I have a few LRs and a .17 HMR, so I figured it was time for a .22WMR. This is my first one, and my first Henry pump.

I have heard of the stiff action as well, and sitting here in the chair, yeah...it's a little stiff. I expect it will loosen up a bit, but other than the initial "breaking point" (hard to describe) on the pull, it's not bad.

Wow!..$9. Must be nice. On this side of the wall, I'd be happy paying double that.

I have a 22lr pump and like it alot. But it does take some gettin use to as the action isnt anything like the levers. It took me 500 rounds before I thought it loosened up enough to my liking. I also think it took that much for me to get use to it not ever having that type of gun before. Les took his apart and did some work to it but Im not that brave even though there is a you tube video of how to do it. Its not a very clear video but there is one. It is accurate and I lkie to shoot it but Im still working with it. I did take some of my amsoil spray and spray into the action and I thought that helped a bunch. I nee to work with it more and I will if I ever get time. Al

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Thanks for the reply. I haven't had a chance to shoot yet, but hope to this weekend. I'll put a few hundred rounds through it before I think about going inside. I've had to polish the bolt on a couple of bolt guns in the past to loosen 'em up a bit. This one may require a similar treatment. I'm fairly mechanically minded, so as long as I have instructions/diagram/video to go by, I'm not too worried about taking it apart if it comes to that.
My wife and I are used to pump action rifles (we have 2 Timber Wolf .357s and a Remington 121 already), and we like them, so that is a plus. It may be because of that, but I really don't find this one too bad other than the initial part of the pull where you are tipping the hammer back.

I hope so too, and I really hope my wife enjoys it as well. She lost interest in her 10/22 after I brought the .357 pumps home last year. I've wanted to try one of these out for a while now.

The pump isn't any harder than the lever except you don't have a mechanical advantage that a fulcrum gives you. Mine seemed tight but after working it 500 times it got easier. The rifle didn't wear in all that much but I learned to work the pump more gusto.

On the plus side i've recently noticed wide availability for 22 mag ammo. This is a great time!

Availability here isn't bad...paying for it hurts a bit, though. I'm hoping to get out with Ang and shoot tomorrow. We've got 3 different flavors to try, and will see if the pump has any preferences between them.

Just for sh!ts and giggles, here's what they cost locally for a 50 round box:

Federal Champion 40gr FMJ...$15.99
CCI Maxi-Mag HP+V 30gr JHP...$19.99
CCI V-Max 30gr polymer tip...$21.99

lol, plus 13% tax...Good times!
