Help with buying Henry Pump 22 mag H003TM

Post by olaf44 » Wed Mar 01, 2017 5:17 pm

Hello everybody, I am new here. I really want to buy a Henry pump action 22 mag, as that would be the perfect thing for me on my small farm. But I have heard some negative things about them. I know about the past problems with the pump action. I have also read that the pump 22 mag is not the most accurate gun out there.

Am I wrong on this?
Has Henry fixed all of the problems with the pump 22 mag?
For those that have one, how is the accuracy at 25, 50, and 75 yards, scoped and non scoped?
I will be putting a lot of rounds through it. probably at least 2000 rounds a year, can it hold up to that kind of stress?

Thanks.

Hi Olaf .... welcome to the Forum from Runcorn, UK! :D

I don't have the magnum either, but I will second what Al has said. The .22lr is very accurate, and I imagine they use the same barrels so the magnum should be just as good.

The pump action itself is quite stiff at first, but it does ease up nicely after a while. I don't think you'll regret your purchase if you decide to buy one. ;)

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, I think I will send Henry an email with some of my concerns but I think I will end up purchasing one anyway. I know their customer service is outstanding, and they will make it right if something is wrong. I just don't like going through that. I will be using the rifle as sort of an in-between plinker, hunting rifle, and defense against small to medium size dogs.

Well I received a response to my email. First my email and then their response.

"Hello there. I really want to buy a Henry pump action in 22 mag. Model Hoo3TM But I have read that there have been some problems with them in the past such as light primer strikes, jamming, and the action locking up. Have these problems with this model been resolved?

I have also read that this model is not the most accurate gun. So how is the accuracy at 25, 50, and 75 yards, both scoped and non scoped?

Finally, I plan on putting at least 2000 rounds through it on a yearly basis. Can it take this kind of stress?

Thanks,
P.S. I know that the pump is a stiff action. That does not bother me at all."

Their Response,

"Thank you for your interest. While any of those issues may have occurred on individual guns, we have tens of thousands in the field generally giving good service.

There should be no problem with that round count and as this is a two-piece stock design, the rifle is made for plinking more so than it is a dedicated target rifle. We don’t print an accuracy guarantee but industry standard for 22WMR generally seems to be in the neighborhood of 2-2.5” at 100.

Best Regards,"
